Overview: This two-hour clinic builds on basic casting skills and focuses on refining techniques you'll use on the water. Session 2 emphasizes controlled casting, roll casting for tight spots, extending your line for longer casts, and a quick knot refresh. We’ll also cover bug identification and hatch matching so you can present flies more effectively.
What you’ll learn
Casting drills: Structured drills to improve timing, distance control, and accuracy. Repetition with instructor feedback to develop consistent casting mechanics.
Roll casting: How and when to use roll casts, practical drills to build confidence, and variations for different situations (e.g., under overhanging branches).
Extending line for longer casts: Techniques for controlled line pickup, false casting, and efficient energy transfer to reach greater distances without sacrificing accuracy.
Knot refresh: Hands-on review of essential knots (e.g., improved clinch, blood knot, surgeon’s knot) and troubleshooting common failures.
Bug & hatch review: Basic aquatic insect identification, reading hatch activity, and selecting flies that match common hatches to improve strike rates.
