Overview: This two-hour hands-on clinic is designed for women who are new to fly fishing or who want a confident refresher on foundational skills. Session 1 focuses on getting you comfortable with your gear, mastering essential casting drills, and learning the basic knots you’ll use on the water.
What you’ll learn
Gear setup: Learn the components of a fly rod and reel, how to rig a line, attach a leader and tippet, and set up a fly. We’ll cover rod/reel balance, proper line management, and basic maintenance tips to keep your gear performing.
Casting drills: Practical, progressive drills to build a smooth, efficient cast. You’ll practice grip and stance, false casts, roll casts, and short- and medium-distance accuracy. Instruction emphasizes body mechanics, timing, and consistency to make casting easier and more repeatable on the water.
Basic knots: Step-by-step instruction on the knots every angler should know, including the improved clinch knot (or surgeon’s loop, depending on application), blood knot (or nail knot basics for leaders), and a reliable connection knot for attaching leader to tippet.
